Initials

Hizashi/Els
_

"Is that a different necklace you're wearing today?" Elly reached out to touch the thinner looking chain around her boyfriend's neck.

He winked. "Look and see."

"You're a crazy man," she murmured affectionately, lifting it in her fingers.

"Take it off," he told her quietly, his voice deepening. She raised an eyebrow at his tone, knowing it meant he was getting serious. She unhooked the lobster clasp and held the fine link chain in her hand. The end had a flat, engraved strip of metal with a tiny chip of what could possibly have been a diamond. It was still quite dark in the room, and the lettering was difficult to read. Hizashi scooped her up into his arms and laid down on the couch, draping her across him like a blanket. It was only two letters in english, her native language. She made out the fancy script of the first letter and smiled. "E", for Elly - what else. It was an initial pendant. They were pretty hot these days, with a lot of advertisements on television showing men giving them to pretty ladies. She looked up with a smile to find him sweating lightly, his green, spiraling eyes a mystery.

"My initials?" He nodded, speechless, and that's what caused her to look more carefully at the lettering. "But Zashi, this isn't an "S", it's a ..."

It was a "Y".

E.Y.

Elly Yamada.

She quickly looked up and her nose almost bumped into the exquisite velvet box he was holding out to her with that sheepish, shy, one hundred percent Hizashi grin plastered on his blushing features, complete with nibbling anxiously on his lip. When he saw she was looking he popped it open to reveal what she would never have dreamed he would spring on her. The ring was simple, a white gold band with a pretty little setting of diamonds in the shape of a music note, the largest being the main stone of the ring in traditional engagement fashion. Her eyes widened, then blurred as they filled with tears. She held out her hand, unable to speak, and he slipped it on her finger.

"Hey hey, pretty kitty," he whispered softly. "You've made me happy as hell."
