Kanpeki na arashi - 6

"He's not going to let us in." Elly tilted her head from where she sat, her tail swishing angrily.

Hizashi stared blankly at the shelter he had worked to build. It was large enough to fit them as well if they changed sizes. There was absolutely no reason to leave them out in the rain.

"No. I guess he isn't." It had started slowly with a light sprinkle that felt refreshing, but he knew it would grow. This would be another uncomfortable night.

"Figures." She rolled over on her side.

"But, hey, first things first. I'll get you something to eat." He could only go so far towards the water, and even that was pushing the limit of the boundary spell. It hurt, but wasn't unbearable. When she made as if to try and follow, however, he shook his head. "It's okay. I've got this."

Hizashi took a deep breath and let it out, scanning the river. When he saw a dark shape under the surface, he inhaled sharply, drawing the fish and a thin funnel of water directly to him. His hands gripped the fish tightly and he sent a low jolt of electricity through it, killing it instantly. He gutted the fish the same way, with the low energy current acting as a knife. After it was clean, he walked back to her, concentrating on cooking it as evenly as possible.

"Here." He handed her the whole fish. "You really need this, and it's the best I can do right now."

Elly took the offering gratefully. "Are you sure?" He nodded. "Thank you."

"I - I don't believe him this time." Hizashi stared numbly at the makeshift shelter the human lay warm and dry in. The rain began to pelt down in huge, heavy drops.

"It's all right." Elly sat down on a mossy rock close to the wattled stick hut and ate her fish. "Nothing matters anymore."

"Don't say that. Of course it does." He huddled over her, trying to keep her as dry as possible.

She smiled wanly up at him. "You've treated me the nicest anyone ever has, Zashi. I guess that's one good thing out of all of this."

His throat tightened as he looked into her lavender eyes. They had grown paler since he had seen them first and he worried about this. She wasn't the type of being that he associated with criminal activity. Not only was he fairly sure Aizawa had captured an innocent, the human was hell-bent on making her trip back miserable. Hizashi couldn't begin to think about what would happen when they reached their destination.

"You need so much I can't give you," he choked, lightly touching the side of her face.

She laughed without much humor. "No one's ever given me anything, really, so just the thought is nice." The eaten fish carcass was neatly buried in a little hole. She held her hand out, rinsing the dirt off.

"Wait." He knelt beside her and caught her other cheek so he was holding her facing him. "I can give you something," he husked, his eyes filled with sadness.

"What are you thinking?" She blinked up at him, her eyes widening as she realized. "Wait, Hizashi..."

He shook his head, his blond hair laying long and limp on his shoulders and straight down his back. When it was wet it didn't stay upright but looked like human hair. "We don't have enough time," he whispered.

Elly bit her lip and started to cry. "Why did I have to find you now?"

He smiled shakily at her. "Fate? Crappy, human conceptual fate?"

She threw her arms around him and he held her tight as the rain poured down on and all around them. Luckily, the noise of the storm masked the sounds of their lovemaking. All, that is, except the deafening crack of thunder that rolled through the sky as Hizashi threw his head back towards the end.
