Flirt Wars (Zashi)

Survival of the derpest

Mic whined under his breath. "Chessss..! There's a spider on that log."

She blew it off and it ran away into the night. The Voice Hero heaved a sigh of relief and carefully inspected the rest of it. Spotting nothing crawling around, he sat gingerly on the dead tree with his knees drawn tightly together and an anxious grin on his face.

"Thanks."

"No problem." She shrugged. "I'm not crazy about bugs, either."

"Why'd they pick me for this wilderness training crap anyway?" He saw she was shivering a bit and took off his jacket. "Uh. Here, babe."

Elly blushed as she always did when he called her that. He didn't do it to anyone else. "Thank you." She laid it across her shoulders and leaned close to him. "You'd better share, it's getting colder."

"Oh! Um... sure thing." He bit his lip and hesitated before sliding an arm underneath and across her shoulders. Elly purred and snuggled extremely close, causing the largest, dorkiest smile ever to creep over his features.

"Mmmn."

"This - this ain't so bad, right?"

"You're very right," she sighed happily.

There was an attempt

Elly flopped onto a chair in the teacher's lounge at lunch. It had been a rough day; training her young friend was sometimes difficult and she had pushed herself hard. She sighed and moved her lunch tray around, frowning. The plastic was bumped on one side, indicating something underneath.

She peeked and found an envelope with her hero name written on the front. She looked around but no one was watching, so she simply opened it with a little shrug. There was a single sheet of paper inside and more writing.

"<i>I wrote your name in the sky; the wind blew the clouds away.

I wrote your name in the sand; the tide came up and it dissolved into blank ground again.

But I wrote your name in my heart before any of this and nothing will ever remove that.</i>"

Her eyes widened. This was cheesy, sure, but for someone to say it, to mean it made her heart beat much faster. She read it several more times and then slipped it back into the envelope, tucking it carefully in the hidden bag she wore on her outfit.

Present Mic came strolling in carrying his tray and whistling. "Hey, can I sit here? Thanks!"

"Sure," she said in a daze. "Mic, is there something you want to tell me?"

He paused in the act of reaching for a soda on his tray. "Uh. Uh... what?"

She held the envelope up, her ears perking towards him.

"What is that? Why - why'd ya think it's from me?!"

"Hizashi," she murmured softly with a smile tugging at her lips, "you wrote it in English."

He stared at her, his green eyes huge and his mouth gaping open. "Oh, sh -!"
