Birthday 2019 (Shota)

Aizawa tensed as he opened the door to his campus apartment. Cracking it slowly, he stuck his head in and squinted hard, peering into the darkness and alert for any sound or movement that would give his colleagues and friends away.

Silence.

He didn't even hear his girlfriend, which was odd since she had certainly gotten home before him. Maybe she had a headache and was laying down in the bedroom with the lights off like she sometimes did.

He shrugged and stepped inside. "I'm home," he called out quietly, kicking his boots off while he pulled his goggles out of the capture weapon he wore around his neck. These were hung neatly up beside her gear along with his belt. Sighing, he rubbed his neck and shuffled wearily forward to the bathroom for a shower. Normally he wouldn't bother, but it was a special day and he had tonight off from his usual patrol work.

He did have to admit he felt much better freshly scrubbed and clean. Aizawa pulled the clothes he had set out previously on and stretched, looking closely at himself in the mirror. He rubbed a hand over his stubble, grimacing, and pondered shaving for all of four seconds before grunting in dismissal. Instead he reached into the drawer and pulled out a ridiculously bright, purple scrunchie with cat pawprints on it to tie his hair back with.

There. He'd done his part to look festive. Now for his girlfriend  - she had to be around here somewhere.

Elly was in the first place he looked, the bedroom. Before he turned on the light he saw her silhouette, illuminated from behind from the thin glow of light slipping through the closed blinds. She was stretched fully out on the bed with her tail flicking absently in the air. He smiled and snapped the switch.

She turned only her head to grin back at him rather like her namesake, her fangs showing as she watched his eyebrows raise. He hopped up beside her rather quickly, reaching out to tug at the bow around her neck.

"Is this my gift, then?"

She chuckled and lashed him once across the chest, gently, with her striped tail. "Happy birthday."

Aizawa looked her over more closely, his breathing growing hoarse as he saw how she was dressed. She had her paw boots and gloves on with a furry bikini set that matched her colors. The bow doubled as a collar with a large bell dangling from her throat. She rolled over, the bell jingling musically, and handed him an envelope she had been concealing with her gloves.

He opened it, slipping a printed piece of paper out. It looked official, had her name written in several places with lines for him to sign and a pawprint seal with a heart at the bottom.

He paused.

Stared at her with a slight blush on his cheeks and across the bridge of his nose.

"<i>Adoption papers?</i>"

"You want to keep me, don't you?"

"Of course." She watched with an overwhelming amount of love in her heart as his gray eyes softened when he read the entire thing. He signed, set them on the nightstand and then held his arms out to her.

"Work still has that meet up at the bar, but that's later," she told him as she crawled onto his lap much the way a domestic cat would. "We have a few long hours all to ourselves until then."

He stroked her back silently for a few minutes, palming the length of her tail and listening to her purr.

At last he buried his face in her hair with a huge sigh. "You little fool," he murmured with the hint of a catch in his voice. "Was it really necessary to add all that extra in?"

Elly smiled quietly to herself and hugged him tight. She had spent a good amount of time wording everything exactly.

"Yeah. I think it was. I don't tell you often enough how much I love and appreciate you. In most respects, I really was wandering around aimlessly until I found you."

"Can I unwrap my gift now?" His lips twitched in a mischievous grin.

"It's your birthday, handsome. Just don't tear into it too hard." She chuckled wickedly.
