The Wheels of the Bus (Hizashi)

It was warm and sunny on the bus ride home from the school's field trip that afternoon. Elly was just like any cat in the aspect that this was the ideal situation for a nap. Her eyelids grew heavier and heavier, lulled by the sound of the engines and the sweet scent of the man seated beside her.

Present Mic's face was contorted into a hilarious mixture of fear and utterly heartbreaking, almost puppy-like infatuation. He had a huge crush on the school counselor but hadn't the courage to ask her out yet. Still, he managed to sit next to her whenever he had the chance and now she was leaning on him!

He choked.

Not only was she lightly slumped against his arm, she was asleep. He froze, his green eyes growing wider as he looked around for help.

What do I do? What do I do?!

"Somebody should help the poor guy." Yagi shrugged, smiled when the man's stricken gaze met his. He had no idea what to do in that situation, either.

"Not me," Midnight declined. "This is one of the most amusing things that ever happened on these trips. I knew Yamada was inept at female interaction but not how much. I need this in my life. "

"They're not dating."

"Not yet," she retorted with a giggle. "Look at the way he's blushing! He looks like he's fifteen."

Aizawa was also dozing, so he was no help. Mic glanced behind him in desperation and faced a sea of eager, wide-eyed stares from the students.

"Uh..."

"Put your arm around her!"

"Ohmigosh, Mr. Mic, do you like her?"

His face colored even further. "Erk!"

"'Course he does."

"He looks like Ochaco does when Midoriya's close to her."

"I do not..!"

At least it couldn't get any worse than all the kids teasing or trying to help him.

He was wrong.

"What's all the commotion about?" A grumpy voice snorted. Aizawa had woken up and his bleary eyes stared first at his friend's nervous face and then at the woman snuggled comfortably next to him. At this point she had even grasped his arm and was cuddling with it, completely immobilizing the voice hero.

"Shota..!"

"Hmph." The dark haired man snorted roughly, annoyed that this had been the cause of his waking. His expression clearly told his friend he was on his own.

Present Mic slowly extended his arm until it was curled around her, holding her close. She sighed and began to purr, squeezing his arm a little more. "Hoo boy," he gulped. He felt faint; probably from his quick breathing as he struggled to maintain calm.

"This is great!" Midnight crowed gleefully. "He's going to pass out right next to her at this rate."

Yagi was more compassionate. The frail man mouthed, "Relax," to his colleague.

Mic managed a small smile and a nod. "I'm trying," he squeaked.

The bus ride didn't last too long and soon they were squealing to a stop in the parking lot. Now there was cause for even more alarm as the cat woman was still asleep! The students piled up, some smiling or winking at him. A few of them hooted or whistled lowly. He ignored this, concentrating instead on the sleeping beauty beside him.

"Hey," he husked, touching her shoulder softly. "Hey, uh... Cheshire? Ches. We're back at the campus."

Her eyes remained closed as everyone filed past and eventually they were the only ones left on the bus. She looked so peaceful that he was loathe to wake her but knew it had to be done. His heart hammering in his chest, he drew all of his courage together and took a deep breath. He leaned down, lightly brushing his lips on her own in a fleeting kiss.

"Mnn. M - Mic..?" She opened her eyes in confusion, her fingertips jerking to her mouth. "I - did I fall asleep? I'm sorry!"

"Nuh," he muttered. "Um. I mean, n - not a problem. No way! I almost didn't wanna wake ya, y'know? You looked like you were havin' a good dream."

Her fingers brushed her lips and he watched incredulously as she blushed shyly. "I was... I think. It was a really nice dream."
