A Sweet Surprise

Hizashi was finding it harder as he got older to drag himself out of bed in the morning after those late-night gigs. He probably shouldn't work on school nights, but this last had paid really well. He was saving up for something that was going to cost a lot and every extra bit helped. Standing in line at the bakery before work, he was barely able to stifle his yawns as he chose what he wanted.

He ordered two coffees and a pair of croissants, one loaded with sugar glaze for him and the other plain for his girl. He paid and was about to leave when he stopped short. His boot had almost bounced off a curious young child.

The kid was looking up at him in awed amazement. He was half white rabbit, his head and a tail, along with large bunny feet. He wore a pair of Present Mic sunglasses tipped back on his head and had a liscensed t-shirt on as well. Hizashi couldn't stifle the huge smile that spread across his tired face. This was another reason the long hours were worth it.

"Ooohhhhhh!" He sat heavily down right in the middle of the bakery, his nose twitching and his mouth open in shock.

"Hey, little listener. What's up? Where's your family?" He glanced around and saw a man about his age staring around frantically in the back, whete the restrooms were. He flagged him down, pointed, and smiled.

"You're - you're ..!"

Hizashi was in costume, his hair waxed into the giant plume and his leather outfit squeaking as he moved around. He drew his very best Present Mic aura around him and beamed at the kid, popping him a quick finger gun. "Present Mic! Th' one and only. Ya got me. Hey, how's about we move over here so we're not jammin' up the line?"

They moved over towards the seating area while the other man caught up to them.

The rabbit-headed boy hopped up and down with excitement. "I want to be just like you when I grow up!"

"You want a tip on how to be a great DJ, eh?"

"Yeaaahhhh!"

Mic chuckled at the imitation of his quirk. Thank goodness it wasn't nearly as loud as he was, though.

"Ryu, geez!" The man finally caught up, breathing hard. "Don't take off on daddy like that. I can't keep up!"

"Quick as a bunny, eh?"

"Tell me about it." He smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry, it's just that you're his favorite hero," the father said. He ruffled the boy's hair. "He saw you and - wham! Took off. We have all your stuff at home."

Ryu tugged at his dad's sleeve. "And Cheshire! You guys're like my dads now!"

The man laughed softly, a blush spreading across his cheeks. "Ahh... he heard you two were together."

"Aww, that's gonna make her day when I tell her, little man. We're not married just yet, though." Mic shrugged good-naturedly.

"Ohhh." He scuffed his sneakers on the floor. "But you will, right?"

Mic's grin seemed likely to split as he tried not to laugh. He hunched down and cupped his hand to the long, furry ear bobbing in front of him. "Just between you an' me, I'm probably gonna ask her real soon."

The boy's eyes grew giant and he squealed happily, so thrilled to share a secret with his hero.

"Anyway, you ready for that tip?"

A flurry of nods. "Yes yes yes!"

"Always play your favorite music. That's it." He pulled his shades down and winked at him. "It's easy as that. If you love what yer doin', everyone else will, too."

He signed the little boy's t-shirt by request of the father ("if we get home and he sees he forgot to ask for your autograph he'll go rabid" were his exact words). And as he left to rush back to campus he couldn't wait to show Elly the photo they had taken together.

It was absolutely adorable. She would probably give him a huge kiss because of it.
